She is truly amazing. I found this video piece on Youtube where she did a piece on the BBC tv program "The Old Grey Whistle Test" back in 1973. Mindblowing.

Just finished reading 'Just Kids' by Patti Smith. It is a beatifully written memoir of her relationship with the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and living in New York in the sixties. Very raw and moving, just like her records.

Our next show...

R.I.P Mark Linkous

I just found out that Mark Linkous has recently passed, tragically taking his own life.

I discovered Sparklehorse around 2000, when a friend made me a mixed cd that featured Linkous covering Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here". I then went out to purchase "It's A Wonderful Life" and it became my soundtrack to that year. I listened to it everyday and I loved everything about it. His fragile voice, the beautifully composed lo-fi arrangements, all the little quirks with the lonely sounding drum machine and of course the songs that were so sad yet so uplifting in its rawness of revealing.

Such an inspiring record that inspires me still today when I listen to it.

We were hoping it wasn't going to rain as the weather predicted. But we decided to go anyway and wing it, giving up on Plan B to shoot in Melbourne. But as it would turn out, no rain fell on Hanging Rock until we got in the car to leave. We were pretty lucky.

When we got there we were the only people there which was kind of spooky but extremely peaceful. Walking up the steep rock, we saw a few kangaroos, a wallaby and a lot of bunny rabbits. I think we scared them off pretty quick with one girl lugging cameras and a tripod, and the other in a hot pink dress holding a glittery mobile that was entangled so far into itself it was unusable. What a sight.

But within minutes we found a spot to take the first photos. The second location was a cave like rock formation that is very close to the actual "hanging rock" which always suprises me as small and "is that it?". Lauren took a lot of cool photos in there. She was taking photos on her digital slr, as well as film on the 'Mamiya' and another film camera which was loaded with Ultra Colour film.

The last location worked out well too which Lauren spotted on the way up. It was a burnt out tree stump that was kind of hollowed and had an opening that looked like an entrance.

All in all it was a very succesful shoot and Lauren Bamford did such a great job. Now I've got some great photos to inspire the album artwork..which is next...
